Dan Horne

With a background in Bass performance and basement 4 track recording, Dan Horne has put together a career over 20 years of Hi Fidelity and Hi vibe musical production and output. His studio is a collection of that quest for uncompromising quality and aesthetic. A live work environment where musicians can stay and focus on their project, but are also minutes away from the excitement and resources of Hollywood and the City of Los Angeles.

Welcome to UHF STUDIO.

UHF STUDIO

Dan began collecting recording equipment in the early days and has always had an eye for the DIY and found object. Ian Sefchick has LONG been a mentor and supplier of custom pieces that became the centerpiece of the studio. Along side those custom microphones and processing units, there has always been a quality analog console and tape machine, starting with the Yamaha Pm1000 then the PM2000 and now a custom 2023 NEVE BCM10 mk2. Longtime collaborator Kurt Heasley instilled Dan with the confidence to use his own eye and ear for gear and focus on pieces that create a unique flavor such as his EMT 140 plate reverb and Ampex atr 102, MCI JH24 and microphone collection starring the Neumann KM56, U47 Fet, and U87s, Ian’s Magic Death eye mics, a large collection of various vintage dynamics and ribbons, and processing pieces from east side star Bryce Gonzales of Highland Dynamics.

Of course there needs to be musical instruments to make the magic happen and Dan Has been collecting pieces from all over the globe throughout his career as a touring musician and likes to keep instruments around that combine both a unique discerning vibe and are functional and well maintained. Also living at the studio are a widely varied palette of basses and acoustic and electric guitars. Alongside a solid repertoire of classic keys, organs pianos and synthesizers. All instruments are tuned and ready, and client use and exploration is encouraged including a selection of drumsets, snare drums, roto toms and hand percussion

The studio space was designed and built by Dan horne and Fraser Gorman on the lower floor of an old house in the Chevy chase estates hill of Glendale CA.  The studio and house has 3 bedrooms, a living room space with records and a hi fi system, a hard working kitchen, and a lovely backyard with a pool! Sessions are often fueled by collaborative meals cooked on premises by the artists and guests. And swim breaks are common in the summer months. There is also private parking in the garage and an additional few spaces of off street parking.
